TTRPG Actual Play Professional

Hi, I'm Jien (They/She)!I've been playing TTRPGs since 2014, I've been in the Actual Play space since 2018, and working in the space more professionally since 2022.

I believe that being mindful of diversity and accessibility should be at the core of what we do in this and all industries. I seek opportunities that are suited to me, aim to share those opportunities with others who also need them, and try to make sure that I step aside for others to claim opportunities that are suited to them and recommend folks for those opportunities when I am able to.With that in mind, these are the identities for which I pursue opportunities in this space:

BIPOC (Japanese)
Immigrant
Nonbinary
Queer (Asexual, Panromantic)
Neurodivergent

This is me behind the screen!Outside of TTRPGs, my hobbies include coding, cat-snuggling, knitting, watching non-English Netflix shows, and playing a whole lot of SoulsBorne games.

Performer

I try to play as many new systems as I can every year. I make sure to keep a healthy balance of home games and streamed games so that I don't forget the intrinsic motivation behind sitting at TTRPG tables, and my favourite part of any game is always watching the plot come together in that 'Aha' moment. A few examples of my work can be found below.

Producer

Producers do not appear on camera (unless they're a player-producer, of course), but they leave their mark on every stream that they touch and are essential to any stream's ability to run smoothly and at a high quality. Services I provide as a producer include (but are not limited to):

  • Setting up stream layout and balancing audio levels before going live

  • Troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise during stream

  • Remaining vigilant for and privately alerting to any safety concerns that may arise during a session

  • Marking timestamps for potential clips

Project Manager

Actual Play productions take much more work behind the scenes than many people realise. There are dozens of moving parts that all need to align before a production can even make it to airing its first episode. Here's what I can take care of so you don't have to worry about it while you're putting your AP together. This is not an exhaustive list, and I am always happy to expand my current skills and learn new ones.

DEADLINES: Given a set of air dates, an onboarding of how your pre-production process works and some information on the sort of timeline you like to keep for your productions, I can work out the schedule for when casting calls have to go out, when official table invites are extended, and when each step of pre-production needs to be done in order to be ready for airing. I can also automate this process in Notion (live demo available upon request) so that you are able to simply plug in an air date and watch the deadlines fill themselves in.CAT HERDING: If you have a core team that have their own tasks to do but need reminders or direction, I can provide some structure to the behind-the-scenes processes with concrete reminders and task lists dispensed as needed.BEHIND THE SCENES TASKS: If your core staff does not have the capacity or time to take on the more tedious bits of pre-production, I can lend a hand. I have done every step of the Actual Play process all the way from reading a pitch from someone who wants to run a series to thanking them after the last episode of their show has wrapped, and I am happy to lend you my skills and experience.INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: I specialise in Notion databases to keep track of everything a channel does. Some things that I have used Notion to visualise/automate include casting forms, diversity data, air calendars, and task boards. If you've been eyeing Notion but aren't sure where to start, I can help with that!
